Incorporated in
1973, we are a professional Equity repertory, performing Shakespeare, other
great Classics and socially relevant modern plays in a season which runs from
April through September. We are also well known in Southern California for our
School Days and Classroom Enrichment educational programs that serve Los Angeles
area public and private schools in our off-season.
Our Academy of the Classics was founded in 1975 and has grown to house a
variety of educational programs for adults, teenagers, and children. Our goal is
to provide a gymnasium where participants may learn and practice the techniques
needed to perform the great Classics.
Actors yearn to play Shakespeare, but are often afraid to do so. Why? Perhaps
the language is intimidating. Perhaps the heightened human experience feels
foreign. Yet overcoming these challenges expands a performer's range and
develops strength. Phrasing the verse and expressing the words and emotions with
a heightened physical and vocal awareness frees the actor. Other acting work
seems simple after playing the Classics.

Our classes are led by a repertory of renowned theatre professionals. They
specialize in techniques of Voice, Movement and Text, and are proud to pass
their insight and experience on to both the beginner and seasoned professional.
